On 5 April 2017 we held the first of our planned regular monthly volunteer days. And what a success it was!
Fifteen volunteers turned up, full of expectation and excitement about what the day had in store for them. We were blessed with a lovely sunny day, with barely a cloud in the sky. Working outdoors on a warm day is always a joy. Who wants to be stuck in an office when the sun is shining?!
Over a cup of tea or coffee everyone got to know each other before setting out onto the farm.
In the allotment area wood stain was applied to protect the boards on the raised beds, weeds were removed and seeds planted. Soil was added to recently built beds and wood chip laid on the paths in between the beds to make it easier to get around.
In the kitchen a couple of volunteers helped with much needed renovation work to create a better and more accessible work space for our co-farmers. In the future the co-farmers will use the kitchen with food grown on the farm.
Lunch was a lovely soup made by our very own Donna. It was needed after all the hard (but fun) work of the morning.
Through out the day there was lots of conversation about what a great time everyone was having and thoughts were already turning to the next volunteer day.
The next volunteer day is on 3 May 2017. You can book your place here.
